I arranged a show at the RK
Burt Gallery on the Southbank in London in 2003, where officers from the tough Southwark
Police
came for tea and cookies. They
posed for me and talked about their lives. As I painted, it was apparent
how unique each of the officers is,
in the facts of their varied
responsibilities on the job, and in their private lives. The installation
was purposely bare: hanging each portrait by
clips on the wall, in an accumulating group, was an
event in itself as the public watched the gallery filled with the images of "twelve good men."
